Garth B. Haines           June 5th - June 21st

Garth B. Haines, A.O.C.A.
Garth Haines's passion for painting started at the early age of seven when his parents gave him a Reeves oil painting set.  He painted little cards and sold them each for a quarter.  As a teenager, he joined a local group of mature painters in Toronto who ventured every weekend to paint on location in the country.  Haines graduated in 1954 from the Ontario College of Art, with a degree in Drawing and Painting, winning three scholarships in the process. 
In 1968 he returned to O.C.A. to teach 3-dimensional design for several years.

People always thought he was a designer who also painted.  He considered himself a painter who also designed. Haines's long and successful career in commercial design encompassed diverse roles such as a film designer, storyboard designer, illustrator, and interior graphics designer. His presentation and design talents took him across Canada to work for many elite organizations.

Now in retirement, Haines gets to indulge his "calling".  Still in Toronto, he paints daily, creating works of good technical quality and aesthetics.  "For me, painting is a lifelong learning experience.  That is my ambition … to never stop learning."
