This show features the Painting Companions AY Jackson and RW Burton.
AY Jackson was a founding member of the Group of Seven and the Canadian Group of Painters (1933).
He moved to Manotick in 1952. RW Burton met AY at the Banff School of Fine Arts in 1947. Burton returned to the Ottawa area and became a great painting companion of A.Y.'s. Burton drove Jackson to many locations around Eastern Ontario and Quebec. They also traveled to the east coast, Yukon and Alaska.
Burton's sketches are very much like AY's in their later works. The subject matters, colour palettes and movements on their plywood panels are very much alike. When they ran out of board to paint on they would turn it over and paint on the back as you can see in Burton's panel seen below.
