JAN LYONS
Jan Lyons was born in suburban Toronto in 1961. At the age of eleven she made her first visit to an art gallery, the McMichael Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario. The uniquely Canadian landscapes opened her eyes to possibilities and inspired her to begin sketching. It was her father who first helped her with her drawing and it was then she found out that he had dreamed of becoming an artist but was never allowed the opportunity. Her family moved to a small farm in Caledon, Ontario. Picture a young girl, toting sketch pad, pencils and pastels, through pastures and trees, her dog trotting loyally by her side.
She studied fine art for a year then worked on her own developing her individual style of painting. Jan attributes her love of Canada to her ancestors as her roots go deep, back ten generations to the early pioneers and voyageurs in Quebec. "I fell in love with our land and developed a true sense of being Canadian. Our landscape is as unique as we are".
Her paintings have been collected across Canada and the US.
