Tom Roberts was born in Toronto (Thomas Keith) and studied at Central Technical School under Peter Haworth, Charles Goldhamer, Robert Ross and Carl Schaefer, as well as at the Ontario College of Art under F.S. Challener, J.W. Beatty, Yvonne McKague Housser and Fred Haines. He was a free-lance artist and a selection of paintings were chosen by Rous and Mann Ltd, Coutts Limited, Warwick Brothers and A.S. Fysche Co of Montreal to reproduce. Sampson Matthews Ltd also produced silkscreens of his work.
